Meet The Therapist
My name is Emily. I am the owner and LMT at Confluence Massage Therapy. I wanted to take a minute, you can sit right there, to tell you how I became the LMT of the West Forks, Maine.
I was born and raised in the small town of Carmel, Maine. Although living there was pretty sweet, I knew that I needed to branch out and find my space in this wide world. I attended the University of Maine at Orono and graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology and a Minor in Dance. In 2016, I was looking to embark on a new journey. A friend invited me to The Forks to become a “raft guide”. After a week of intense of training and a state exam I succeeded in this goal of becoming a Licensed Maine Whitewater Guide. Quickly, I developed a love for The Forks Area community. I truly believe that when people say our state’s motto “The way life should be” they have this town in mind.
In 2019, I made the move to live here year-round. As you can imagine living in a seasonal adventure town, everyone is always sore having long days on the rivers/trails. After the work day we would often gather at one of the local hangouts, talk about our day, soak up the sun and complain about “what's hurting today”. All my life, I’ve seen and experienced the effects of hard work on the body. I have also seen and experienced the therapeutic effects of massage. In a town full of hard working, hard playing individuals, I saw the need for this service day in and day out, year after year.
In 2021 I answered this call and enrolled in The Therapeutic Bodywork and Learning Center. My course work included 500 hours of training, 100 hours of practice as well as instruction and certification in Reiki Levels I & II. I studied a variety of modalities including but not limited to: Swedish, Deep Tissue, Pregnancy & Infant, Cupping, Passive Stretching, Sports, and Chair massage. I received my license from the State of Maine in November of 2022. I began my journey in foot reflexology this winter and am on course to be a certified Foot Reflexologist. It is a great joy to continue the adventure of honing and developing my skills as a massage therapist.
I hope to see you wander our way soon.
Take Care,
Emily Batchelder, LMT
About The Name
The town of The Forks gets its name because it sits at the confluence of the Kennebec and Dead rivers. A confluence is the joining together of two or more streams to make a body of water. I chose the name “Confluence Massage Therapy” because I view the human body as the ultimate confluence of the many different aspects: muscle, bone, blood, lymph, energy, and more that join together to make up the human body.
